MA Arts and Cultural Management - Sheffield Hallam University

Gain the key skills to work in the cultural sector, a thorough grounding in cultural policy and theory with practical management skills.

  • • Study UK and international arts funding models
  • • Learn the impact of heritage and regeneration policies on regional and national identity
  • • Discover the benefits of arts engagement in education, health and prison settings
  • • Investigate how issues of diversity are played out in museums

 

 

This course is part of the Sheffield Institute of Arts — our creative community within Sheffield Hallam.
You learn through

  • • short lectures
  • • guest speakers from the arts sector
  • • study visits to important cultural sites
  • • working on a management project in partnership with Museums Sheffield and other arts organisations
  • • seminar activity
  • • discussion of reading
  • • online reflective blogs

 

This approach allows you to build your knowledge and skills and grow in confidence, becoming a more critical and independent learner. You will be prepared for the challenge of the final dissertation and, furthermore, for the demands of further study or cultural sector employment.

Semester 2 : Sep 2023 @ SHU
  • • Critical Issues in Culture
  • • Dissertation (running across 2 semesters)

Semester 3 : Jan 2024 @ SHU
  • •  The Arts Management in Practice
  • •  Dissertation (running across 2 semesters)

**Please Note : some modules may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.
**Background or part-time work in the sector that would be preferred.
Otherwise – you would need to join an extended induction.

Applied learning

Work placements
You are supported to secure voluntary work experience with a range of partner organisations. These have included Museums Sheffield, Sheffield Industrial Heritage Museums, Sheffield Theatres, Site Gallery, the National Caribbean Heritage Museum and several festival producers.

Field trips
You have the opportunity to go on study visits to vibrant cultural centres such as: Glasgow, Liverpool, Hull, Leeds and Manchester (some additional costs apply). These visits are complemented by visiting lectures from a range of well-established sector professionals from the visual and performing arts, heritage and community arts sectors.

Tuition Fees

 • 1st Installment   150,000 THB
 • 2nd Installment   200,000 THB
 • 3rd Installment   280,000 THB
  Total   630,000 THB

*** Notice of Tuition Fees change: Tutition fees may be changed from this fee for the year 2023 due to the updated academic year 2023 from Sheffield Hallam University.

*International students (Non-Thai students) will be added THB 25,000



*A student will need a minimum of £1,023 per month to cover basic living expenses.
*International students are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during term time and full-time working during vacations.

English Language Requirements
If English is not your first language you will need to be able to show you have the required level of English language. 
The course requirements with IELTS or BACIET overall score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 or higher in each component (reading, writing, listening and speaking).
